At the press conference within the framework of the project “Comprehensive Action Against Torture”, the beginning of the work of the Center for rehabilitation of victims of torture was promoted.

From the beginning of this year, this center started with work and so far three people have already requested assistance in the same. The aim of this center is to contribute to the effective prevention of torture, the fight against impunity and convalescence from the consequences of the torture. Psychologists, psychiatrists, doctors, lawyers will work with the victims who will ask for help in the center, all the cases will be documented, processing to court and other types of assistance. Within the Center there is a mobile team that can act on the territory of the whole country.

     For the Center, work and importance, for the media spoke: Goce Todoroski – Executive Director of CCI, Freek JANMAAT, Advisor, Head of Sector – Representative of the EU Delegation – Skopje, Jelena Loncarjevic – Program Director – IAN Representative – Belgrade – Serbia, Zivko Siljanoski director of the ICSW – Prilep, Aleksandar Dameski director of the Prison Prilep.

     Goce Todoroski spoke for the functioning of the Center, its availability, the experiences of the project partners and the cooperation with the institutions.

     Jelena Loncarjevic – Program Director – Representative of the IAN – Belgrade, in the address to the media, reminded that torture is one of the worst human rights violations, that it is a crime against humanity. The purpose of torture is to destroy the human person, dignity and always has the goal of intimidating the community. Loncarjevic mentioned that this center, as well as their in Serbia, treat and help to the members from the families who were subjected to torture.

     According to Freek JANMAAT, Advisor, Sector Manager – Representative of the EU Delegation – Skopje, this project comes at the right time, when Macedonia faces with a European integration process and when the issue of human rights is one of the main problem in general. According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, no one should be subject to torture or to inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment, said Freek JANMAAT and added that for our country, they have provided constant assistance in this area for more than 20 years.

     The directors of the Center for Social Work – Prilep, Zivko Siljanoski and the Prison Prilep – Aleksandar Dameski, confirmed in their statements, the good experience of the cooperation with CCI in the past, but also their openness and transparency for the cooperation in the future and within this project , in order to protect and promote the human rights and prevent the occurrence of torture.

     This project “Comprehensive Action Against Torture” is supported by the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia, and in its realization are included Center for Civic Initiative – Prilep, with partners from Serbia: IAN – Belgrade and Center for Human Rights – Nis, and will lasts until the end of 2020.
